t the May 13 annual town meeting, voters will act on a $38.9 million budget, 2.72 percent or just over one million dollars more than last year.
Town Manager James Smith estimated that the tax levy will raise $29.5 million, while state aid will add $6.6 million. Local receipts are expected to total $2.4 million.
A transfer from the Capital Stabilization Fund in the amount of $234,673 and $56,000 will come from free cash.
Budget recommendations for the following departments are:
Police $2.4 million
Fire $634K
Ambulance service $103K
Sutton schools $21.3 million (including Blackstone Valley Regional)
Highway department (snow & ice removal, street lighting, cemetery) $1.2 million
Health and Human services $387K
Library $270,548
Recreation $42,270
Insurance and benefits $3.78 million
