w/Discussion on Celia Thaxter & Tasha Tudor
Sturbridge, MA — Join us on Wednesday, March 30th @ 1 p.m. at the Sturbridge Senior Center as the Southbridge Garden Club and Joshua Hyde Library co-sponsor an illustrated lecture celebrating gardening, hearth and home with a focus on Celia Thaxter and Tasha Tudor. In keeping with the 125th anniversary of the Joshua Hyde Public Library, this presentation will discuss parts of our history as pertaining to these women and the artistic expressions of gardening and home to span over three centuries. This program will introduce the audience to Celia Thaxter, author of An Island Garden, poet, and painter of the 19th century. Then we’ll move into the 20th century and to Tasha Tudor’s fascinating life, books, and familiar illustrations. We’ll also discuss her creative talents and unique approach to home and garden. The program will conclude with informational handouts that include suggested readings and thoughts on how each of us can learn from the lives and works of Celia Thaxter and Tasha Tudor. Presented by Ellen K. Duzak, a retired Professor of Psychology at Becker College. This presentation is free and open to the public.
