The Grafton Police Department is bringing back its K9 Unit thanks to the generosity of local businesses, organizations, and community members.

The department recently announced the arrival of Xena, named after the fictional warrior princess, who will join K9 Sergeant Joe Coggans as she prepares to serve the community.

The department thanked several businesses and organizations for helping make the return of the K9 Unit possible, including Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog, Homefield Credit Union, Sunshine Sign Company Inc., All Steel Fabrication, Leone’s Corp., Perreault Nurseries, Green Block Properties, Fitzy’s Car and Pet Wash, Collette Motors, Gaudette Insurance Agency Inc., Metalogic Industries of Southbridge and the Committee to Elect David Muradian Jr.

The department also recognized Bonnie and John Lloyd, Kendal Leofanti, owner of Kenny’s Canine, and Grafton residents who contributed to the effort.

Xena is currently preparing for a 3,600-mile journey from Germany, where she has lived her entire life, to Grafton. Once she arrives, she will begin working with Coggans through the rigorous K9 certification program.

The department plans to share updates on Xena’s journey and explain how residents can follow her progress as she prepares to join the community.

The Grafton Police Department thanked everyone who helped bring the unit back, noting that the community’s support made the effort possible.
