Local cultural councils seek applications

The Local Cultural Councils in Charlton, Dudley and Webster are accepting proposals from individuals, schools, and organizations for community-based arts, humanities, and science programs for 2027. The deadline to apply for a grant is 11:59 p.m. on October 15.

The Mass Cultural Council (MCC) is a state agency that allocates funds to all 351 municipalities in the Commonwealth through 329 local and regional councils. The MCC determines the annual funding to each Local Cultural Council (LCC) based a formula that uses the community population and equalized property values: “The state property valuation helps balance allocations relative to local wealth and resources.”

The FY27 allocation for Charlton is $10,500, Dudley’s is $12,000, and Webster’s is  $17,200. Most awards are in the $500 to $750 range, although there are exceptions. Most LLC grants are reimbursement-based, which means the applicant expends their own money and then submits paperwork for reimbursement. Charlton, however, provides direct grants.

Projects that have been funded include live music, art exhibits, festivals, school field trips, short-term artist residencies, STEM-based projects, performances, craft workshops, and lectures.

All applications must be submitted online through the MCC portal. A description of the program, LCC contact information, FAQs, and what each town funded in FY 2026 can be found at massculturalcouncil.org. W
