Auburn’s 2026 construction season has brought road, sidewalk and drainage improvements to several areas of town, with additional projects scheduled to begin later this month and wrap up before the coming winter months.
JH Lynch has completed or continues work on multiple roadways, including portions of South Street, Church Street, Auburn Street, Lancaster Street and Old Millbury Road.
Approximately 2,600 feet of South Street, from Route 20 to Central Street, has received new sidewalks and drainage improvements; and approximately 2,300 feet of Church Street, from Central Street to Route 12, has also received new sidewalks, both with final paving expected Sept. 18.
JH Lynch has also completed paving on approximately 2,700 feet of Auburn Street, 1,300 feet of Lancaster Street, 700 feet of Old Millbury Road and approximately 600 feet of South Street near the intersection with Barnes Street.
According to Kaitlyn Johnson, staff assistant and communications coordinator for the town manager, JH Lynch’s contract is valued at $1.8 million.
Work by PJ Albert is also continuing on several projects. Approximately 5,000 feet of South Street, from Potter Farms Road to Cedar Street, has received drainage improvements, and new paving is expected before the end of September.
On Warren Road, approximately 2,900 feet from Route 12 to the Massachusetts Turnpike bridge, is scheduled to be repaved. The project, valued at $960,000, includes a new 1,000-foot section of sidewalk and minor drainage improvements; and is expected to be completed by late October.
Additional PJ Albert projects are scheduled to begin in late September. Approximately 2,700 feet of Bancroft Street, from Pakachoag Street to the Interstate 90 bridge, is scheduled to be milled and paved. The project also includes a new 1,000-foot section of sidewalk between Overhill Drive and Pakachoag Street.
PJ Albert’s Road Reconstruction Contract is valued at $1.6 million.
Approximately 5,800 feet of Leicester Street, from Bryn Mawr Avenue to the intersection with Rochdale Street, is also scheduled to be milled and paved.
“Funding is split between Municipal Capital Improvements, Municipal General Operating Budget and Auburn’s Chapter 90 funds,” Johnson said.
Chapter 90 funds are state transportation funds that are distributed to municipalities for eligible roadway and transportation-related improvements.
With multiple projects continuing into the fall, residents can expect some traffic impacts as construction moves toward completion.
“Minor impacts to traffic can be expected as the projects close up,” Johnson said. “As the season winds down, schedules may be shifted due to weather.”
The town manager’s office expects all construction-related efforts to be completed by November 2026.
