Uxbridge community gathers for tribute night at Polar Park in honor of Officer Stephen LaPorta

On June 4, Polar Park in Worcester hosted “Uxbridge Takeover Night,” an evening that brought together the Uxbridge community, local public safety members, and fans for a night of baseball and recognition.

The event, hosted by the Worcester Red Sox and presented by Altus Dental, welcomed leaders from the Uxbridge Police Fallen Officers Foundation along with the family of Uxbridge Police Officer Stephen LaPorta, who died in the line of duty earlier this year.

Before the game, members of the Uxbridge Police and Fire Departments served as the honor guard for the national anthem, marking a moment of reflection at the start of the evening.

On the field, Officer LaPorta’s son threw a ceremonial first pitch in his father’s memory. Later in the night, the Worcester Red Sox presented the family with a signed baseball bat for his son, a gesture offered in recognition and support.

The evening was marked by a community gathering and remembrance, with families, first responders, and fans sharing time at the ballpark in honor of a local officer who is remembered by many in Uxbridge.
