Community partners help local resident regain independence

The Oxford Lions Club partnered with other organizations to help one local resident regain her independence. Through a community-wide effort, funding was secured to provide life-changing adaptive vehicle modifications.

Since December 2019, Jenna Santos has lived with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a condition that limited the use of her right leg and left her believing she might never drive again. While a Cecropia Strong grant helped her learn to use adaptive driving equipment, the cost of modifying a vehicle remained a significant barrier.

Funding for the project was made possible through a Lions Clubs International Foundation District Community Impact Grant and support from the Webster Lions Club, Oxford Lions Club, L&L Concrete, Webster/Dudley Veterans Council, DAV Chapter 53, Webster PAV, and Webster VFW.

Advance Wheels of Oxford completed the vehicle adaptations, allowing Santos to return to driving.

The project serves as a powerful example of how Lions Clubs help their communities by identifying local needs and bringing together grants, businesses, organizations, and volunteers to create meaningful change. Through the combined efforts of community partners and dedicated Lions members, what once seemed impossible became a reality for one local resident.

“Because of your generosity, I have regained my independence, reconnected with my social life, and taken a major step toward returning to work. Thank you for giving me my freedom and my future back,” said Santos.
