Hummingbird Festival Returns to Douglas Common on May 2

Apr 09, 2026 03:51PM ● By Lynn Paresky, Douglas Common Preservation Society, Inc.

Since last year’s Hummingbird Festival was such a huge success, it will return to the Douglas Common on May 2nd from 9 am to 3 pm.  Offering live music, shopping from more than 30 vendors, kids activities, presentations by a knowledgeable hummingbird expert, entertainment by Dance Sensations, and tasty offerings from food trucks, the Hummingbird Festival brings a lot of family fun for Douglas and surrounding towns.

Showing their strong dedication to the communities they both serve, UniBank and Lindsey Sarah Realty are sponsoring this year’s Hummingbird Festival. As Major and Gold Sponsors respectively, their support helps The Douglas Common Preservation Society, Inc. bring a fun family day to the area for all to enjoy!  Make sure to stop at their booths to thank them for being so supportive and involved.

Amir Ghazanfari

The Hummingbird Festival is a celebration of the return of those fascinating little birds that so many people love, and the event’s guest speaker will be Amir Ghazanfari, a Syracuse University educated biologist and naturalist working with MA Audubon studying the State hummingbird population.  Ghazanfari will offer both a morning presentation (10 am) and an afternoon presentation (1:30 pm), providing general information about population, nesting, migration, types, pollinator importance, what plants attract them, and important feeder information.  Following the presentation, Ghazanfari will be available for one-on-one questions.

The day also offers live music by Joe Cicero, Bob Moran and Phil Stockwell, shopping at an assortment of 30+ different vendors offering products for hummingbirds, plants, unique gifts, decorative home and garden items, food items and more.  There will be children’s activities, including free face painting, activities led by the Simon Fairfield Public Library, and free hummingbird feeders offered by Lindsey Sarah Realty to the first 100 children visiting her booth.

The day wouldn’t be complete without dance performances by students from Dance Sensation.  Stealing the hearts of last year’s audience, the little girls dancing to the song, “Happy Hummingbird,” and the older dancers were a highlight of the day.

The Hummingbird Festival also offers food trucks so attendees can satisfy their hunger between all the other day’s activities.  Big Daddy’s Bites, Three Sons Grilled Cheese and the Tasty Gelato Truck will all be offering up some tasty food items, so bring your appetite!

Make sure to put the Hummingbird Festival on your calendar and bring your family and friends to enjoy this special local Spring event.  There will be lots of free parking for the Festival this year.  Choose from parking at the Veterans Field or at the Highway Department.  A free shuttle bus will bring you from the Highway Department right to the Common and will be going back and forth during the entire Festival.  The Veterans Field is just a short walk from the Common.  With a Handicapped Placard or Plates, parking is also available in the 1st Congregational Church parking lot.
