Agree to Disagree

Booklovers’ Gourmet will host a free interactive presentation titled Mastering the Art of Respectful Dialogue on Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the store, 72 East Main St.

The session, led by Webster resident Jessica Butler, will focus on helping participants communicate more effectively during disagreements. Organizers say the program will explore practical strategies, listening skills and conversational prompts designed to diffuse tense situations and turn differences of opinion into opportunities for understanding.

During the presentation, attendees will learn why people often feel threatened or defensive when their views are challenged, and how to replace defensiveness with curiosity. The session will also introduce techniques aimed at improving relationships, finding common ground and strengthening problem-solving skills.

Butler recently retired as principal and founder of Attain Consulting Group, where she specialized in business process improvement for more than 20 years. Earlier in her career, she was a partner in an international accounting and consulting firm. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and an MBA in finance.

Since retiring, Butler has focused on community-based efforts centered on communication skills, joint problem-solving, tolerance and fostering common ground. She and her husband relocated from New Jersey to Webster in 2023.

The program is free and open to the public. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by calling 508-949-6232 or emailing [email protected].
