Winterräden Returns to Uxbridge with Winter Bike Race
Winterräden, a winter mountain biking event geared toward experienced adult riders, will return to the Blackstone Valley on Sunday, Feb. 22, transforming a 65-acre private property at 175 Henry Street into a challenging race venue.
This is an event to build community and a not-for-profit happening, according to Joe Bolandrina, one of the race organizers.
“The event has been so successful in the past that the private land owner agreed to the use of his land once again,” said Bolandrina.
Organized by the Urban Assault Build Crew and hosted by trail builder Chris Nichols, Winterräden is open to participants ages 18 and older and offers a nontraditional race format designed to test technical skill and strategy rather than endurance alone.
The event features a 1.5- to 2-mile lap-based course that includes custom-built structures, technical obstacles, and steep drops. Riders may choose to tackle more difficult features to reduce lap times or opt for alternate routes that are less demanding but slower. Organizers say the design allows competitors of varying strengths to approach the course strategically.
Registration opens at 9 a.m., followed by an open practice period from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., giving riders time to familiarize themselves with the terrain. The race is scheduled to begin at noon. Registration is at BikeReg.com/Winterraden or Winterraden.weebly.com. Signed waivers are required.
The course is set within the privately owned “Zig-Zag” trail system, a locally known network with a long history of informal riding. Organizers describe the venue as fostering a community-oriented atmosphere rooted in independent trail culture.
In addition to the race, Winterräden will include an adult-only social area featuring food vendors, local beverages, gear demonstrations, and industry booths. Every registered rider will receive a commemorative event T-shirt with custom artwork.
Organizers are also seeking sponsors for the 2026 event, with opportunities available for local businesses and outdoor-related brands.
