Uxbridge Unveils Official Logo for 300th Anniversary Celebration
The Uxbridge 300th Anniversary Committee has unveiled the official logo commemorating the town’s upcoming tricentennial, marking 300 years of local history from 1727 to 2027.
The winning design was created by local artist Dave Moriarity and selected through a community-wide logo competition. Committee members said the artwork stood out for its thoughtful storytelling, historical detail, and its ability to capture Uxbridge’s deep roots, community spirit, and enduring legacy.
At the heart of the design is a portion of the oldest known image of Uxbridge - an 1839 illustration by J.W. Barber, originally published in the 1840 book More Massachusetts Towns. Prominently featured in the background are two historic landmarks that continue to define the town: the Uxbridge Academy/Masonic Hall, built in 1819, and the Unitarian Church, constructed in 1835.
The logo also pays tribute to a beloved local historian and community figure. A fife-playing Colonial Minuteman honors Peter Emerick, an Uxbridge resident known for his dedication to preserving town history and his passion for fife and drum music. Emerick passed away on May 12, 2023, following a courageous battle with ALS. Committee members said his legacy and love for local history live on through the emblem.
The circular logo proudly displays the anniversary dates, 1727–2027, in the town’s iconic Spartan orange and features the celebration’s official motto, “Heritage, Heart, Home.” The outer border is designed to resemble a strand of Uxbridge wool, a nod to the town’s rich textile heritage. That industry famously led to the creation of “Uxbridge Blue,” the original color of the U.S. Air Force dress uniform adopted in 1947.
“This logo is a celebration of everything that makes Uxbridge special — our history, our people, and our deep sense of community,” committee members said in announcing the design.
Moriarity received a $100 gift certificate for his winning entry, along with the distinction of riding on a float during the town’s Santa Parade. The logo was formally unveiled in December during Uxbridge’s First Night celebrations.
The Uxbridge 300th Anniversary will be marked by a year-long series of events and activities, culminating in a grand commemoration on June 27, 2027. Organizers say the newly unveiled logo will serve as the visual symbol of the town’s historic milestone throughout the celebration year.
