Sutton Historical Society Events
October is a busy month for the Sutton Historical Society. All members are invited to our Annual Meeting to be held Tuesday, October 1, at 7 pm in the First Congregational Church, 307 Boston Road. This year’s meeting includes election of Board Members, consideration of a high school scholarship to be awarded by the Society, as well as discussion of the 2025 Calendar of Events. Any member interested in being considered for a board position or suggestions for 2025 events/presentations, please direct your inquiry to Christine Watkins, Secretary, at [email protected]. Members are encouraged to attend.
The Society will be participating in the Annual Waters Farm Days, 53 Waters Road, Sutton, sharing the Waters’ family genealogy and the history of the Darling Barn and Darling family. We will be set up inside the Darling Barn. This event will be held rain or shine, Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20, from 10 am – 4 pm. Sten Brote Memorial engine show, including Antique Engine, Tractor& Doodlebug Show, Farmhouse tours, 4H club, kids’ activities, and more! Sunday only: Bruce Nicholson Memorial Car Show. This event is fun for all ages.
On Saturday, October 26 at the Town Center Cemetery, 4 Uxbridge Road, join the Society for our annual Cemetery Tour from 4-7 pm. This event is subject to a time change due to the EEE threat being experienced in the region. Updates will be posted to our webpage, suttonhistoricalsocietyinc.org and on Facebook. This event is in collaboration with the Oh My Gourd event (thesuttonfourth.org) which includes pumpkin and scarecrow contests on the Common, a Tractor parade along Boston Road (Facebook @suttonagtrust), Trunk or Treat hosted by the PTO, dancing Witches, and fireworks scheduled for 7:30 pm in the Center (rain date for fireworks-November 2). The Cemetery tour is free and suitable for all ages. Volunteers/costumed interpreters are needed. Reach out at [email protected].
